This article provides an overview of the ITIL process Capacity Management.

Capacity Management focuses on ensuring there is enough capacity in the right place at the right time to ensure performance of IT Services are acceptable. Performance should adhere to agreed service levels, which reflect the patterns of organisation activity and organisation needs. Capacity is something that should be continually reviewed and good planning is the key to quality. Reviewing what new services need, and what existing infrastructure will require upgrading and when will result in greater customer satisfaction. Cost is also a factor, loops back to organisation needs and service levels and what is acceptable. Capacity Management should also work with operations and be involved with performance and capacity related problems and incidents.
